On October 11th, 1976, at the age of 45, Werner Haas lost his life in a road accident in France. The Stuttgart music critic, Dieter Schorr, wrote "What moves us most about Werner Haas is the fact that he was one of the most well-balanced, amiable and modest classical pianists ever to appear in this town. Because he was reserved Werner Haas never became a star even though he was the most versatile and superior pianist at that time in Stuttgart. A prophet who was much more appreciated outside his own country. We should also not forget that Werner Haas was always popular in Paris which was never an easy place for classical pianists. Stuttgart has lost an artist with high artistic and moral qualities."
